Coffee Cups And Critters

It's coffee time! For the Love of Coffee fabric line is out by Benartex fabrics LLC. I had the opportunity to use this line for my 2nd quarter ambassador project. I thought it would be fun to fussy cut the fabrics to focus on the design elements in it. I also added cute little critters too.

This line was designed by Nicole DeCamp which included fabrics of rich browns, coffee cups, coffee beans and yummy treat. It is the perfect line to use to make fun mug rugs, placemats, table clothes and other fun decor items for your kitchen. These fabrics can also be made into coffee themed gifts for those coffee lovers out there.

I used raw edge appliqué along with free motion embroidery and thread painting or thread doodling. To do this, I cut out the elements that I wanted to focus on for the placemats and mug rug that I made. I backed them with double sided fusible (Lite EZ Steam II). I also cut out different animal shapes, fused them and then decorated them with thread using free motion embroidery.

Method:

1. Cut out the rough area to be fused.

2. Fuse the fabric to the fusible web per manufacturer's instructions

3. Cut out the shape desired from the fused fabric.

4. Peel off the backing of the fusible web.

5. Adhere to backing fabric.

6. Fuse again per manufacturer's instructions.

7. Appliqué with desired stitch.

8. Free motion embroider or thread paint to decorate.

After choosing each design, the batting, backing and binding was applied. Now it is time to enjoy so coffee or tea!
