Sunflower Spice And Everything Nice

The sunflower spice fabric line is colorful and full of beautiful batik fabrics with sunflower floral designs. It is a perfect fabric line to work with during Summer and envokes joy when looking at each fabric. The colors are so vibrant and includes the full array of the rainbow. I chose these colors with a beautiful navy basic from Lumin fabrics called Storm.

I chose to make a table runner with full and half hexagons. Using full and half hexagons can be tricky as you need to sew, "Y" seams. It is easy as long as you take your time.

Sunflower Spice, was designed for Jennifer Thomas of Curlique Creations by Jerry Khiev with Island Batik Lumin Fabrics. Visit the Curlicue Creations blog to enter to win a bundle of Sunflower Spice fabric, plus the new pattern of your choice. Click on my profile link.

Technique:

  1. Sew a half hexagon to one side of the hexagon. Start and stop 1/4" in from each side.

  2. Add the second half hexagon. Start and start 1/4" in from each side. This allows the ,"Y" seam to be sewn much easier.

  3. Align the two half hexagon sides together. Sew along the side and meeting at the hexagon a 1/4" in from the edge. The , "Y" seam is complete.

  4. Continue sewing each side until all half hexagons have been sewn to the hexagon in the center.
